Master the Art of Pantry Organization

Master the Art of Pantry Organization

If you open your pantry door and are flooded with open boxes of cereal, containers with missing lids, and cans tumbling onto your toes - and let’s not even talk about the expired packages that have been hiding out in the back corner for years - it’s time to organize your pantry.

Don’t stress! It’s actually not as difficult as you may think. A quick trip to your favourite Okanagan Valley housewares store to get some bins, jars and baskets can have your pantry in tip top shape in no time. Here are some great ideas to help you organize your pantry like a boss:

Switch Up the Shelving

Most pantries have standard spacing when it comes to shelving, so changing the height of some shelves can help provide better utilization for storing your pantry items. As an example, short stacked Tupperware can go on a smaller spaced shelf, while taller cereal boxes can be placed within a larger opening.

Bask in the Beauty of Baskets

Not only do baskets exponentially contribute to you saving space within your pantry, but they also look pretty too! You can choose anything from rustic woven baskets to bright coloured plastic bins. Having similar pantry items grouped together in containers makes it super easy to quickly find what you’re looking for.

Invest in Glass Jars

Items like rice, flour, sugar and nuts can be stored in glass jars to organize your space and preserve their post-packaging life. This is a great way to transition to low-waste shopping as well, buying your ingredients from a bulk grocery store, instead of in plastic packaging from retail grocers.

Get Hooked on Saving Space

Adding hooks on some of the interior doors of your pantry is great way to hang kitchen utensils or smaller appliances that don’t need to take up space sitting on the counter; an emersion blender or extra ladles and slotted spoons can be hung up, for example.

When in Doubt, Write it Out

Keep your grocery and to do lists in your pantry, rather than a hundred scrap pieces of paper everywhere around the house, so you can write down items when you’re running low. Get creative and save some trees, if you’d like to take it a step further, and use chalk paint or a dry-erase board, then easily snap a photo of your list before you head out to grab groceries.
